The 7/8 softball division is a non-competitive league that continues to build on skills taught in the 5/6 division while introducing pitching and catching. More emphasis is placed on proper hitting and throwing techniques, as well as baserunning essentials. Defensive outs are counted, but a score is not kept.
This league uses a modified pitching rule where the pitcher is given a fixed number of pitches that she can throw. If the ball is not put into play after that number, the coach will come in and deliver a fixed number of pitches (see rules)
Players will be randomly assigned to teams with an attempt made to evenly divide girls who have expressed an interest in and/or attended pitching or catching clinics. Players returning to this age group will be placed with their previous coach. All teams are “Anthony Wayne” teams.
All practices and games are held at the Whitehouse Park diamonds on Indianapolis Rd. in Whitehouse or Stitt Park on Farnsworth rd. in Waterville. Practices start at the discretion of the volunteer coaches and games begin after Mother’s Day and run until the 4th of July holiday. Games are played on weeknights and an occasional Saturday, with one to two games each week.
Each girl receives a tee shirt, hat and a medal to keep.
